VWAP and Volume Profile Relationship
They are based on the same fundamental data, price and volume.
Both seek to explain the relationship between price movements and volumes traded. Both provide an indication of which price levels were most "significant" for trading.
However, they differ in the approach and objective of their representation: The Volume Profile aggregates data to analyze how volumes are distributed across different price levels. VWAP uses volumes to calculate a weighted average price. VWAP to follow the time trend and the Volume Profile to identify areas of interest at the price level.
VWAP and Volume Profile can be considered two complementary ways of analyzing the same data set: VWAP condenses information into a single time measure, which is useful for monitoring the moving average price. The Volume Profile provides a detailed view of the volumetric distribution, useful for identifying critical price levels.
